Gutter work we handle

  • Gutter replacement — damaged or worn-out runs replaced with new gutters sized for the roof
  • Custom box gutters — shop-fabricated galvanized gutters matched to the profile on older Chicago buildings
  • Downspouts — bent, disconnected, or undersized downspouts replaced and reconnected
  • Re-pitching and re-hanging — sagging gutters re-hung so they drain instead of holding water
  • Roof-edge tie-ins — on flat roofs, the gutter flange and edge metal tied into the modified bitumen so the edge stays watertight

Why gutters matter on brick buildings

When a gutter overflows, water runs down the face of the wall. On brick, that soaks the mortar joints and freezes in winter, which is how a gutter problem becomes a tuckpointing job. Fixing the gutter is the cheaper repair.

Gutters and flat roofs

On a lot of Chicago two-flats and garages, the gutter's back flange runs under the roof membrane. Replacing it means opening the roof edge and sealing it again. Because we're a flat roof crew, we do both parts, so the new gutter doesn't create a new leak.

How we work

Gutter work in four steps

  1. Look it over — we check the gutter runs, pitch, downspouts, and how the gutter meets the roof edge.
  2. Written quote — repair or replace, the gutter type, and any roof-edge work needed.
  3. Install — old sections removed, new gutters and downspouts hung and pitched, and the roof edge sealed.
  4. Clean up and walkthrough — debris hauled away, and we show you how the water drains.

FAQ

Gutter questions

Should I repair or replace my gutters?
If it's one loose section or a leaking joint, a repair usually works. If the gutter is crushed, rusted through, or won't hold pitch, replacing it is cheaper over time.
Can you match an old box gutter?
Yes. Older buildings often have shop-fabricated box gutters that aren't sold as stock parts. We have new ones fabricated to match the existing profile.
Do you do gutters on flat-roof buildings?
Yes. We tie the new gutter and edge metal into the flat roof so the roof edge stays watertight.
My gutters overflow onto the brick. Is that a problem?
Yes. Water running down the wall soaks the mortar and freezes in winter. Fixing the gutter early is cheaper than tuckpointing later.
How do on-site estimates work?
Book an on-site estimate by calling (773) 454-3914 or sending a request through our website. There's a $50 booking fee, which is credited toward the job if you hire us. We inspect the gutters and roof edge, take photos, and give you a written estimate with honest recommendations.
