Why a roof and masonry crew

Most chimney leaks happen where the brick meets the roof. Because we do flat roofing and masonry, the same crew handles the chimney and the roof tie-in. You don't have to coordinate a mason with a roofer, and nobody can blame the other trade.

Repair, rebuild, or remove?

If the brick is sound, tuckpointing and a new crown usually fix it. If the top courses are loose or leaning, we rebuild that section. If the chimney is no longer used, taking it down to roof level removes a leak point for good. We tell you which one makes sense and put it in a written quote.

Chimney repair questions

Do I need a new chimney crown?

If the crown on top is cracked, crumbling, or flat so water sits on it, yes. A new sloped crown with a drip edge sheds water off the chimney instead of into it.

My ceiling leaks next to the chimney. Is it the chimney or the roof?

Often it's the flashing where the two meet. We check the crown, the joints, and the flashing, and fix the actual source, whether that's the masonry, the roof, or both.

Can you remove a chimney we don't use?

Yes. We take it down to roof level, close the opening, and patch the roof so there's no chimney left to leak.

Do you tuckpoint chimneys on pitched roofs?

Yes. We set up safe roof access, protect the shingles around the chimney, and clean up all the mortar debris when we're done.

What time of year can you repair a chimney?

Mortar needs to cure without freezing, so most chimney masonry is done from spring through fall. Active leaks can get a temporary fix in winter.
